Summary
The Nigerian Professional Football League (NGA1) is the top football league in Nigeria's football system. At the end of the 2019-2020 NGA1 season, the NGA1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:
- 2020-2021 CAF Champions League:
- 1st and 2nd place 2019-2020 Championship Round NGA1 teams
- 2020-2021 CAF Confederation Cup:
- 3rd place 2019-2020 Championship Round NGA1 team
The winner of the 2019-2020 Nigerian FA Cup, typically a NGA1 team, also receives a berth in the 2020-2021 CAF Confederation Cup.
Due to COVID-19, the 2019-2020 NGA1 season was cut short at 20-26 regular season matches per team and no teams were relegated. Consequently, final table rankings were determined by average points per game versus just points. In case of ties, teams that played fewer matches were ranked higher. The 2020 Nigerian FA Cup was cancelled, so as 2019 Nigerian FA Cup winner, Kano Pillars was awarded the 2021 second CAF Confederation Cup berth.

Season Format
Each NGA1 team plays Home-Away matches with the other 19 NGA1 teams for a total of 38 league matches. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) goal difference, then (2) total goals scored.
Playoffs
Not applicable.
Relegation
At the end of the 2019-2020 NGA1 season, the 170th, 18th, 19th, and 20th place NGA1 teams will be relegated to the NGA2.
