Summary

The Indian Super League (IND1A) was founded in 2013 and is now considered to be the top league in the India's football league system. At the end of the 2020-2021 IND1A season, the IND1A teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

  • 2022 AFC Champions League - Group Stage:
    • 1st place 2020-2021 IND1A team
  • 2022 AFC Cup - Playoff Round:
    • 2nd place 2020-2021 IND1A team

The winner of the 2021 Durand Cup, potentially an IND1A team, also receives a berth in the Group Stage of the 2022 AFC Cup.

Season Format

Each IND1A team plays Home-Away matches with the other 10 IND1A teams for a total of 20 league matches per team. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) head-to-head points, (2) head-to-head goal difference, (3) head-to-head goals scored, (4) total goals scored, (5) Fairplay ranking, then (6) a drawing.

Playoffs

At the end of the 2020-2021 IND1A Regular season, the top four teams enter into the Home-Away highest aggregate score wins Championship Semifinals (1st vs. 4th, 2nd vs. 3rd). The Semifinal winners then play in a one match Championship Final.

Relegation

Not applicable at this time. IND1A plans to introduce a promotion/relegation system by the 2023-2024 season.
