The winner of the 2019-2020 Taça da Portugal (Portuguese Cup), typically an POR1 team, also receives a berth in the Group Stage of the 2020-2021 UEFA Europa League.

Season Format
Each POR1 team plays Home-Away matches with the other 17 POR1 teams for a total of 34 league matches. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) head-to-head points, (2) head-to-head goal difference, (3) head-to-head away goals scored, (4) goal difference, (5) league matches won, (6) goals scored, then (7) a playoff.

Relegation
At the end of the 2019-2020 POR1 season, the 16th, 17th, and 18th place POR1 teams will be relegated to the POR2, and the best and 2nd best POR2 teams eligible for promotion will be promoted to the 2020-2021 POR1.
