Summary

The Kazakh Premier League (KAZ1) is the top professional division in the Kazakhstan football system. At the end of the 2020 season, the KAZ1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

2021 - 2022 UEFA Champions League - 1st Qualifying Round:
- 1st place 2020 KAZ1 team
2021 - 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League - 1st Qualifying Round:
- 2nd and 3rd place 2020 KAZ1 teams

The winner of the 2020 Kazakhstan Cup, typically a KAZ1 team, also receives a berth in the 1st Qualifying Round of the 2021 - 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League.

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 KAZ1 season was cut short to 20 league matches per team. FC Irtysh Pavlodar was disqualified mid-season and all associated matches were cancelled.

Season Format

In the 2020 KAZ1 season, each KAZ1 team plays the other 11 KAZ1 teams 3 times for a total of 33 league matches. In each 3 match series, one team hosts 2 home matches and the other team hosts 1 home match. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) goal difference, (2) matches won, (3) total goals scored, (4) away goals scored, (5) head-to-head points, (6) head-to-head matches won, (7) head-to-head goal difference, (8) head-to-head goals scored, (9) head-to-head away goals scored, then (10) a draw.

Playoffs

Not applicable.

Relegation

At the end of the 2020 KAZ1 season, the 11th and 12th place KAZ1 teams will be relegated directly to the KAZ2, and the 10th place KAZ1 team plays a Home-Away highest aggregate score wins playoff against the 3rd place KAZ2 team. The playoff winner and the 1st and 2nd place KAZ2 teams play in the 2021 KAZ1. The playoff loser plays in the KAZ2.
