Summary

The V.League 1 (VIE1) is the top football league in the Vietnam football system. At the end of the 2020 VIE1 season, the VIE1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

2021 AFC Champions League - Preliminary Round 2:
- 2nd place 2020 VIE1 team

The winner of the 2020 Vietnamese Cup, typically an VIE1 team, also receives a berth in the Group Stage of the 2021 AFC Cup.

Season Format

The VIE1 season consists of 2 stages. In the first stage, each VIE1 team plays the other 13 VIE1 teams once for a total of 13 league matches. The second stage consists of the Championship Round and the Relegation Round. In the Championship Round, the top 8 teams play Home-Away matches with the other seven VIE1 teams for 14 additional matches (27 matches total) to determine final rankings for the 2021 AFC Champions League. The bottom 6 VIE1 teams play Home-Away matches with the other 5 VIE1 teams for 10 additional matches (23 matches total) to determine determine the relegation placements. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) head-to-head points, (2) head-to-head goal difference, (3) head-to-head goals scored, (4) head-to-head away goals scored, (5) goal difference, (6) total goals scored, (7) away goals scored, then (8) a playoff (only to decide champions, runners-up, relegation spots, etc.).

At the end of the 2020 Regular season, the 6th place VIE1 Relegation Group team will be relegated directly to the VIE2.
