Summary

The Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras (HON1), is the top level of league style football competition in Honduras. Each season is split into two championships, the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura. At the end of the 2020-2021 Torneo Clausura, the HON1 teams listed below qualify for the following non-league play:

Aggregate points are determined by combining results from the 2020-2021 Torneo Apertura and 2020-2021 Torneo Clausura into the 2020-2021 HON1 Aggregate Table.

Season Format

The 2020-2021 HON1 season is split into two championships, the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura. Due to COVID-19, the Torneo Apertura was shortened to 14 matches per team, and the 10 teams were split into 2 groups of five. In the Torneo Clausura each team plays Home-Away matches with the other 9 HON1 teams for a total of 18 league matches. A playoff is held upon the completion of each torneo to determine the torneo champion. Table ranking ties are broken by (1) goal difference, then (2) goals scored.

Playoffs

At the end of the Torneo Apertura, the 2nd and 3rd place teams in each group advance to a Home/Away highest aggregate goals wins playoff. The playoff winners meet the 1st place teams from each group in the Home/Away highest aggregate goals wins Semifinals. The Semifinals winners play in the Home/Away highest aggregate goals wins Final. At the end of The Torneo Clausura, the top 5 HON1 teams enter into playoffs (Pentagonal) to determine the torneo champion. In the playoffs, the 1st place through 5th place teams play each other once (4 matches/team) with 3 pt (win)/1 pt (draw) scoring to determine table rankings. If the 1st place team at the end of each torneo is also the 1st place team in the Pentagonal, it is the torneo champion. Otherwise, the two 1st place teams have a championship playoff.

Relegation

Upon completion of the 2021-2022 Torneo Clausura, the 10th place 2020-2021 HON1 Aggregate Table team will be relegated to the HON2.
